Mike Tunnell

Director, Environmental Affairs, American Trucking Associations

This [low carbon fuel standard] is the very first step of fuel economy standards for heavy trucks and I don’t think it ends here.

As the Director of Environmental Affairs for the American Trucking Associations, Mike Tunnel assists in the analysis and development of energy and environmental initiatives that impact the trucking industry. He also participated in the establishment of ATA’s Sustainability Plan and provides industry support on federal and state proposals ranging from emissions and fuels to water and waste. He has managed research projects evaluating how technology and vehicle configurations can be used to improve efficiency. Tunnel has worked on energy and environmental policy and research for ATA and the ATA-affiliates American Transportation Research Institute and Western Highway Institute for more than 18 years.

He received a bachelor’s degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
